Privacy issues, including security and confidentiality of personal information disclosed on or through this web site, are viewed very seriously by MAJ. MAJ uses this information to find out how many people visit this web site and which sections of the web site are visited most frequently. The information may also be used to provide records of communication between MAJ and you, and to comply with any legal and/or regulatory requirements.

Collecting, Holding, Using and Disclosing Personal Information

MAJ may collect, hold and use the personal information in your client record as well as collect personal information from and disclose personal information to the third parties identified below, for the following purposes:

Identifying you and ensuring the accuracy of information contained in your client record;
Facilitating your application for one of MAJ’s services: Vessel Registration, Annual Inspection, Local Trade, Seafarer Certification and Seafarer Endorsements;
Facilitating searches requested by you on the status of your application being processed;
Facilitating “verification of a seafarer” requests by other Maritime Administrations;
Facilitating search requests on vessel details by other maritime entities such as TPDCo and the Marine Police;
Completing the processing of Cruising Permits by allowing Jamaica Customs to query and retrieve the relevant client record.

Information submitted using any of the online services does not remain on our web servers. On submission, a process is activated to collect your data, pass this data record to in-house systems for processing, and delete the record from the web server. This is done almost immediately. Your information does not remain on the web server.

There is subset of data for which the MAJ must provide as a service to other third party entities, such as other Maritime Administrations needing to verify certification of our Jamaican seafarers on board their vessels, the Jamaica Customs Agency who are involved in the issuance of Cruise Permits on behalf of the Authority, Jamaica Coast Guard, who will require subsets of vessel information for security of our borders and Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), for verifying the validity of the safety certificate of a particular vessel before issuing a TPDCos licence. The information however, can only be viewed by authentication and therefore is not accessible by the general public.

Online Transaction Processing

The MAJ uses a contractual fulfilment vendor for credit card processing service to bill users for service they require. Neither the MAJ nor this financial institution does not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes. This financial institution is not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.

Credit Card Fraud

Credit card fraud and misuse is a growing problem. If anyone else has access to your credit cards and uses them to pay any fees, duties or taxes in your name and address, with or without your permission, you are responsible.

We work against credit card fraud, and we try to protect our clients in every way possible. The MAJ does not condone credit fraud, but we will however not be liable for any losses suffered by clients due to credit card misuse or fraud.

Privacy Support

The MAJ reserves the right to amend or modify this Privacy Policy Statement at any time and in response to changes in applicable data protection and privacy legislation.
